Mentoring - what is it and should you even consider it? I was in a position to attend a conference call which involved a respected mentor, Jeffrey Combs. Mentoring Means Involvement
When you mentor somebody, or another person mentors you, you get involved one way or the other. When a person mentors another person there's an investment on both ends. The mentor wants to see good results in the other person. He has a vested interest in their future and is there for the long term. It is not somebody who is simply planning to answer a few questions for you and let it go. Your mentor will do everything possible to see you become successful and satisfy your dreams. He'll also show you your strengths and your weaknesses and just how to work with both.
Mentoring Means Trust
When you're on the receiving end of a top mentoring programs, there's a level of trust involved. You are putting yourself into the hands of someone you trust and believe can help you. You value what they have to say. You have to be open to listening and following what they tell you. You have to care about you enough to follow through.
