Robert Fulghum advised us to live a balanced life, and nobody has taken this advice more to heart than Scott Laplant, a big fan of the inspirational author's books. A network engineer by profession, Scott maintains a broad range of interests. Apart from keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in information technology, he is also involved with a variety of charitable groups as well as pursuing a range of physical activities in his spare time. Scott, who is currently based in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, was born and raised in Escanaba, Michigan but attended college at the Northland Baptist Bible College (currently known as the Northland International University) in Wisconsin.
An avowed tech guy, heis currently the Help Desk Manager of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) at Harrisburg. His responsibilities in this position include improving effectiveness in delivering customer services and helping to achieve the organization's goals. Scott oversees PASSHE's entire customer service network and its IT infrastructure, and since becoming a member of the organization has succeeded in greatly improving its ability to provide customer services to its clients, underscoring his value as a member of the PASSHE team.
Previous to landing in his current job, heheld down the position of IT Manager at Dutchland, Inc., which is based in Gap, Pennsylvania. Scott's responsibilities with the manufacturing and construction company included upgrading its communications and IT networks, and he reported directly to the president of the company. During his time with Dutchland, he was also involved with a number of initiatives aimed at improving the company's automated and centralized network managing systems. His accomplishments include reducing the company's communications costs by 300% while greatly improving the efficiency of its computer networks. The desire to spread his wings and pursue other interests and opportunities led him to leave Dutchland in 2009.
Heis also an avowed supporter of the Linux operating system and is currently a member of the Central Pennsylvania Linux Users Group (CPLUG), which aims to teach its members more about Linux as well as allowing them to network with fellow Linux fans. Scott's interest in business matters (he graduated with a business degree) is also reflected in his being an active member of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.
But healsoensures that he gives back to the community which has become his adopted home. He is a supporter of the Pennsylvania chapters of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Special Olympics, as well as the Milagro House in Lancaster, which is devoted to helping homeless women and children, who have been hurt by physical and psychological abuse and addiction, rebuild their lives. And to make sure that this Jack does not turn into a dull boy, Scott pursues a wide variety of interests in his leisure time as well. He fishes, goes cross-country skiing, scuba diving, biking and plays hockey and basketball. Apart from the books of Fulghum, Scott also reads John Grisham's novels.
