Akshaya Patra is in 8 states and 18 locations; recently Akshaya Patra started its operation in Assam to reach more children who can also benefit the nutritious meal provided by Akshaya Patra regularly to government school children.
What is Akshaya Patra?
Akshayapatra is the worlds largest nonprofit organization, which provides food for underprivileged children. Due to school meal programme which is initiated by The Akshaya Patra foundation, school dropout has been decreased substantially, children started realizing that they are been provided nutritious and tasty meal free of cost in the school, due to this they attend the classes regularly.
The children of government school are not capable of having full meals every day as their parents cannot afford 3 times a meal to their entire family. The school meal programme run by the Akshaya Patra Foundation aims at food for education which is free & helping poor family to send their children to school to at least have a one time full nutritious meal every school day.
Akshayapatra started in the year 2000 with a pilot project of feeding 1500 children.
Akshayapatra in the year 2009 reached a milestone of feeding 1 million underprivileged children which it had projected to feed by 2010. Now Akshaya Patra envisions to feed 5 million underprivileged children by 2020.
Akshayapatra serves nutritious and hygienic meals to the beneficiaries; Akshayapatra is supported by public private partnerships and individuals.
