Mahathir bin Mohamad, one of the revolutionary politicians till date started his political career in1964, when he was designated as the Member of Parliament for Kota Setar Selatan. He was the youngest of 9 children of his parents, his father being a school teacher and mother, a housewife. He graduated from the Edward VII Medical College, Singapore in 1953 and worked as a medical officer in Malayan government for some time. A truly iconoclastic person, who never hesitated in speaking out his mind for his people and country which was why he was sacked from the UMNO Supreme Council after the race riots of 1969 due to his open criticism towards the government for its favors towards ethnic Chinese. Despite of those turbulent times in his political career he came out with the book The Malay Dilemma in 1970, which was banned and later released in 1981 when Mahathir himself became the Prime Minister.
