subject: A House Of Stone, A House Of Prestige [print this page]

A house made of stone atop a steep cliff perched over a hundred feet above cold, murky waters. What once used to be but an object of either a Tim Burton film or a twisted fairytale meant to scare the living daylights out of any child now has the makings of a dream home. Many a skilled stone worker in Toronto or bricker contractor in Toronto can create no less than splendid architectures that look straight from the scene of some Disney Princess movie above anything else. That being said, a great many residents of Toronto have realized what grandeur the striking exterior a house of stone can actually give off.

Stone homes have a distinct splendor to them, perhaps the very reason why every whimsical childs tale has some mention of a stone cottage, a house made of brick and stone, a stone-walled castle and the list could go as long as Rapunzels hair. Good stone work in Toronto easily gives a strong statement that of natural beauty, richness, confidence, timelessness and a couple more to that effect. Stone being the worlds oldest building material, you can only imagine the elegance and beauty it would bring to any Canadian home. Just how old, well it dates back to 2500 B.C. when Djosers Step Pyramid in Egypt was constructed using natural stone and stone alone. At the time average homes did not boast of granite or limestone designs as the ever opulent natural stone was used only for the homes of prominent people, in temples or in government owned establishments. Stone indeed has been a very significant part of architecture throughout ancient history what with the pyramids in Egypt, the grandiose temples in Greece and Rome and the civilizations of China and India making use of this strong element of design.

It is safe to say that most if not all people living in stone homes harbor feelings of nobleness, of prestige, knowing that they live day in, day out in structures once only fit for aristocrats. Imagine the neighbors going ooh-and-ah upon seeing the marvelous chimney work in your Ontario home, the likes of the fictional Three Little Pigs chimney, which could later on be subject to superb chimney repair in Toronto. Although modern technology has made stone quarry extraction and installation significantly easier, hence the emergence of stone houses, it can still pride anyone to walk into a home with a natural stone floor. When walking across and treading on the same material constructed by ancient nobility, anyone is sure to have a spring in their step.

Stone house designs are as varied as the types of stone used to create them. Make any home look formal with granite blocks once used for Georgian colonials; elegant with limestone as seen in French Chateaus; charming with drystack stone like typical European houses; and homey with fieldstone typical in English cottages. Truly, any stone home has a distinct presence.
