2010 Jeep Commander is a Barley a Buck Private Without the Mighty 5.7L Hemi

The 2010 Jeep Commander is a large vehicle, tipping the scales at nearly 4400 pounds. This much weight requires a capable power plant with ample amounts of torque and horsepower over a very broad range of RPMs in order to get the Jeep Commander around traffic, but also for off road and towing tasks that are expected of 7-passenger SUVs from Jeep. Lesser engines are available in the 2010 Jeep Commander, but they exchange ample amounts of power for very modest gains in fuel economy. After all, 4400 pounds is 4400 pounds regardless of whether the 5.7L Hemi is motivating it, or one of the two PowerTech motors is found under the hood.

The 5654 cc Hemi V8 found in the 2010 Jeep Commander is essentially a carry-over from the previous year, but that is not a bad thing at all considering the incredible power band offered by Chrysler's legendary Hemi V8. 330 horsepower are only a foot pedal press away, and most of those horses are bucking and ready to go at 2000 rpm. While 330 horsepower under the hood is certainly impressive, the major advantage of opting for the Hemi is tire-liquefying 375 lb/feet of torque that the 5.7L Hemi is capable of producing. As with the horsepower, the torque offered by Chrysler's Hemi-line of engines starts at a very low rpm and continues all the way up to the red-line. In short, the 5.3L Hemi found in the 2010 Jeep Commander should cause Jeep to consider renaming the model to Commander and Chief, because this power plant is nothing short of 5 stars.
