Visiting the Amazon Rainforest: Iquitos and the Ceiba Tops Lodge

For visitors to Peru, a visit to the Amazon Jungle is a unique experience that exposes them to a special natural world that can only be experienced from the jungle.

The Ceiba Tops lodge is 25 miles from the Explorama Dock in Iquitos, which is only accessible by flight or boat, making the jungle city isolated and special in itself.

The jungle surrounding the city of Iquitos is packed full of lodges and accommodations for visitors that are looking for adventure and to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life.

When you stay at any of the lodges all your meals are normally included as well as all the tours and excursions that are offered by the lodge you choose to stay in.

The Ceiba Tops lodge is the only lodge though with luxury comforts such as a swimming pool and spa. This is the ideal way to relax on an Amazon vacation. The lodge also boasts air conditioned rooms to help you beat the humidity as well as private bathrooms for each of its 72 rooms.

The El Toucan bar is perfect for having a relaxing drink whilst sitting by the pool in the unique Amazon rainforest surroundings. In the evening it has been known for local guides to indulge guests with jungle legends.

When you arrive at the lodge you start your vacation almost immediately, with you being able to go on a hike into the jungle that surrounds the jungle lodge. Guests are able to experience what makes the jungle so special, seeing its diverse plant and animal life.

Other lodge activities include going on river excursions which can take you along the mighty Amazon River dolphin watching, as well as if you are lucky, jungle animals coming to the waters shore to drink.

You can also visit the local Yagua community that has lived on the land since before European conquest in the 1500's. Visitors are able to learn about the traditions and culture of the tribe, as well as be able to learn about how their way of life was affected by European conquest.

The tribe's elders also use a traditional blowgun to hunt prey, which can be demonstrated to lucky visitors.

Jungle Canopy Walkway

One of the best activities thought for guests to the jungle is the trip to the Canopy Walkway. The walkway is at a height of 35 meters and provides visitors the chance to walk above the jungle canopy with a distance of over half a mile!

You are able to see the special views of the jungle, its natural wildlife and its thick vegetation.

Since the development of the canopy walkway, scientists have been able to get deeper into the jungle to further gain and understanding of the jungles unique life.
