The siphon tube as the name implies, is a tube shaped unit integrated into the rear of the porcelain toilet bowl that serves two purposes. First it acts as a trap such that no sewage gasses can leak up into the home. Secondly, it acts as the mechanism for drawing water and waste products out of the toilet bowl base. This phenomenon occurs due to the siphon action.
The toilet tank is a reservoir where a large volume of water is stored. There is a large hole at the base of the toilet tank having around 3 inches diameter. Through this hole only, the water flows into the toilet bowl.
When you push down the toilet tank handle, a rubber flapper is lifted off of the large tank hole via the toilet tank flush valve to allow the water to rapidly pour into the toilet bowl. As the water pours into the toilet bowl, the siphoning function occurs which causes the toilet to flush and empty the waste.
Once all the water is emptied out from the toilet tank, the flapper falls back over the toilet tank hole to completely cover it. Now the toilet tank filler valve starts refilling the toilet tank. Along with this, water also goes into the overflow tube to refill the toilet base.
When the toilet tank is empty for some moments then the float unit will sit near the bottom of the tank. As water fill inside the tank, the float unit also rises with the rise in water level. When the float reaches a predetermined height, the float that is connected to the rod will turn off the switch in the filler valve assembly so that no additional water flows inside the toilet tank.
