Internet Business Lessons I've Learned From My Wife

I really love my wife, but there's always an underlying current of competition between us. A number of years ago, we both aspired to make a lot of money - independent of each other. The sad truth, for me at least, is that she's blown me out of the water. The good news, though, is that I've learned from her.

A few years ago, a buddy and I got together and started a business where we partially used the internet to conduct business. We actually did a great job of setting up the business; it took us about 3 months from start to finish. It was a fun experience and I learned a ton. But, we only made it for about 18 months. Let's just say that we used our web site more as a business card than a sales tool - big mistake.

On the other hand, my wife systematically set up three separate legitimate online businesses and built them into resounding successes over the last five years. She has been able to do this from the comfort of our home, continues to be a full-time stay at home mom, and earns a six digit after-tax income.

How has she pulled off such great online business success while I've continued to struggle? I look at it as a couple of major reasons (in no particular order):

She learns from others -- She hasn't made it her goal to try to reinvent the wheel. She purchased a two volume, 700-page learning course on building an online business, and she was nose deep into those books for about 2-3 weeks. She tested, built, tweaked, and persevered. After a while, she had a crude web site and business system in place. The rest is history.

She works at it consistently -- I'm not saying that she works around the clock. What I am saying is that she never lets a lot of time go by without working on something that will move her business forward. She just has a very consistent work ethic. And, she's been doing this for 5 years now.

Everything is about "legitimacy." -- Never has she resorted to doing anything remotely unscrupulous. She knows it's all about delivering fresh new content to her sites and customers on an ongoing basis. She constantly tweaks her sites and products to keep the search engines loving her and her web sites.

She Provides Outstanding Customer Service -- I don't think there's better customer service in America. She always goes the extra mile and always takes the hit when there's an issue with a customer. She and her employees are beyond friendly and helpful, and it shows down the line because her customer retention rate is exceptional.

And, that's it. That is what I truly believe to be the main reasons for my wife's phenomenal internet business success. I've learned quite a bit from her and continue to learn more all the time. I really plan on giving it another go soon.

She's developing a program for others to learn what she's learned on the internet. Her main focus will be stay at home moms because she's one herself, but it can help anyone. She wants to see others not have to trip and fall over all the obstacles she encountered while building her businesses.
