subject: Time For A New Shower Enclosure [print this page]

Every year a surprising number of people suffer an accident in their bathroom. The reason is simple. They failed to pay adequate attention to their shower enclosure.

To be fair, who can blame them? After all, it's not the kind of thing most of us think about much, if indeed at all. However, the safety implications can be severe. Just ask the rugby player Scott Quinnell, whose rugby career stuttered to a shuddering halt when he slipped and fell through the glass of his shower screen.

Such news, might seem alarmist, and I have no intention of joining the clamouring health and safety brigade. They make enough noise as it is. However, there are plenty of things to consider.

Of these, the most important is footing. I'm often shocked at how slippery it can be in the shower especially if it's the kind that can also double as bath. If it's something that I, as a young-ish thirty something, am worried about, imagine the problem facing the elderly or people with restricted movement.

The good news is there are plenty of good shower enclosures available at the moment. Just a quick search on Google reveals a healthy selection, and it pays to make sure you make the right choice. The more you look around at this stage, the better the chance of finding something that perfectly fits your needs.

The first thing you notice is the remarkable technological advances that have been made in this area over time. At the top of the market, I've even known of some people putting high tech flat screen TV's into the wall. You can also have a remote control device that allows you to start the flow before you get into the shower - great for avoiding water that is either too hot or too slow.

However, that is fine for the top of the market. As for me, I'm happy with something more simple. The only thing I'm looking for from a shower enclosure is something that looks reasonably good, is easy to use and, above all is self. Everything else, is entirely secondary.

With the recession coming to an end, (possibly, cross all fingers) the time has come for many people to start thinking about what kind of things they might like in the home and a shower enclosure is one item that might make it onto the list. If you feel safe and sound, showertime can be highly enjoyable. Take care to make sure it is also safe and secure.
