She asked if I would help her with the wedding and in the past I have done the food for her so I figured that I could do that for her again. I told her yes and then as the conversation proceeded we started talking about decorations. I was throwing out some ideas and then she said that it all sounded good and asked how much money I needed to do those things.
I had no idea that I had agreed to doing the decorations and she keeps calling me her wedding planner. From the date she and I talked to the wedding date was four weeks. I told her that we had to make decisions quickly so that we could get everything moving and if we had to order anything or needed someone else to help us with something we could get with them quickly so we didn't put them in a crunch.
I used to help with weddings a lot and had a catering business, but it has been a very long time and I am finding that I am way out of practice. I have talked around to some of my friends to get some of their ideas and things they have seen at different weddings. One of the biggest challenges is lighting. In most places they have the main lights in a gym or a reception center, but if you want softer lighting it can be a little more difficult to figure out what to do.
At that point you are shutting off the main lights and having to come up with ideas on how to create all of your lighting in this room. You quickly realize that a few lights on some trees or on the tables for center pieces do not put off enough lighting for people to feel comfortable to visit and see each other. As we have visited about her options for creating more light and not having to turn on the main lights we have talked about creating an LED curtain for the backdrop so that it creates a nice background for the wedding line.
With the time frame that we have we have looked at turning to a company to help us with this so that it all works correctly and looks beautiful. It has been nice to give that to the professionals to help us with creating the beautiful lighting that will be center of the reception.
