Xavier Labor Research Institute (XLRI) conducts an all India level admission test called Xat for selection of the best candidates for Business and Management education. This year there are more than 70 Institutes which accept this examination scores which the XLRI, Jamshedpur has been conducting for over 60 years.
On the first Sunday of January XAT is usually conducted. This has become the more difficult in recent years and testing than Cat.
XAT 2011 analysis can be found soon after the exam, and the XAT 2011 results will be declared on 31st January, 2011.
EXAM details:
The test consists of 2hours aptitude test and 20 minutes essay writing totaling to 140 minutes.
Each question carries of 1 mark with 5 options.
Progressive marking scale is adopted by XAT for wrong answers. Negative marks for each wrong answer increases when the number of wrong attempts crosses a certain slab. Every year this slab varies.
For the first 5 wrong answers in each section, 0.2(20%) was reduced in the 2010 exam. henceforth a deduction of 1/4th of the marks was done.
Sectional cut offs will be there for each section but there is no sectional time limits.
For XLRI, Jamshedpur, the cutoffs for the exam would be in the range of 32-37. The other institute's cutoffs will be much lower.
Overview of each section:
Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning:
Primary importance given for critical reasoning, which has increased, compared to the reduction of importance of RC's. Importance is also given to fill up the blanks and jumbles. Grammar and Vocabulary have reduced considerably.
Analytical Reasoning and Decision Making:
The main components in this section would be making decisions, ethical dilemma and arranging the problems. Decision-making resembles 5 answers which are similar and which is difficult to trace out the right one. This makes one to select logical and social answers, which is very important in due course of life.
Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability:
This comprises of quant problems with 3-4 data interpretation consisting of 10-12 questions. Geometry, probability and linear programming would be the topics involved. Mathematical skills and calculation part is the prime focus.
Essay writing:
Next to aptitude test, is the essay writing for 20 minutes which would be considered for evaluation only if he/she clears the written round of the test. An argument or topic or a recent issue is given to write.
