You see, in September of 1995 I asked myself this very same question. I wanted to know what really separated the newbie candle makers from the "seasoned pros".
Because, I was one of those newbie's struggling to make beautiful candles.
I had tried everything when it comes to candle making - every idea, every concept - purchased every "how to make candle book" - followed every rule in the book, and nothing worked for me.
I made some fairly decent sort of candles here and there, but nothing compared to the good stuff you can buy in your local store. That was a bit on the pricey side of things.
I mean, lets face it. Anybody can make candles. After all it isn't rocket science. Just get some wax, heat it up, and add your colour and scent pour it into a mold with the wick in it.

I just couldn't crack the secret that others were using to make those types of candles that sell for a fair price in the local stores.
One day I was reading a personal development book called 'Lead The Field' by Earl Nightingale (amazing book by the way), and in that book he said the most amazing thing...
"If you have no successful example to follow in whatever endeavor you choose, you may simply look at what everyone else around you is doing and do the opposite"
And it hit me. I realized that I was part of that majority that was wrong. I was going in the same direction that 99% of the people that struggle to make beautiful candles are going in.
And I knew that I had to go in the total opposite direction if I was going to have a chance of making beautiful candles that I can give my friends, family as a gift or sell to make some extra income.
I was doing everything wrong by following the old (and outdated) rules of candle making at home, that just about everyone else uses to this very day.
