Doing a hard exercise will be unuseful if you are doing it regularly. There is more to getting fit than doing a bunch of exercise every once in a while. We have all moaned about "I need to get in shape!" and "I need to be healthier than I am now!" before. True physical fitness can only be achieved if you are willing to commit wholly to your health. You cannot get fit without also eating a healthy diet and following a healthy lifestyle. Obviously those topics are best left for another time. Here are some hints that will help you get started on your fitness routine.
Choose healthy lifestyle options. You should not smoke. Cut back on your booze intake. Smoking and drinking are horrible habits anyway but if you continue to do them while you try to get fit you will probably find that you are going nowhere fast. Not only is smoking awful for your body but it makes it far more difficult for you to complete a workout routine. Not only will drinking keep your energy levels low, it is terrible for your liver.
Beyond the harm, alcoholic beverages are notorious for being loaded with calories. It might even take you an entire workout to completely work off the calories you consumed with your drinks. Why set yourself back? While you want to increase the intensity of your workouts over time, you do not want to increase the intensity every day. Constantly building up and intensifying your fitness regimen won't actually make you stronger. Instead your muscles will only get torn up. This is because exercise works by tearing down your muscles so that they can heal to be even stronger than before. Your muscles need time to heal after you work them. You want to alternate your workouts. You should do a hard workout one day and an easy workout the next. This keeps you burning calories but it gives your muscles time to heal and build strength over time.
While you are working out make sure to stay hydrated. Gatorade, PowerAde and other electrolyte infused beverages are really good to have on hand when you do a hard workout. At the very least you want to keep a full water bottle nearby so that you can hydrate periodically throughout your exercise routine. If you don't regularly stop to drink your water (or other drinks) you will get dehydrated and you risk seriously damaging your body. Of course, not every drink is helpful. You want to stay away from sugary juices, sodas or, of course, any alcoholic beverages. Fitness is a total state of being that encompasses your mind and your body. You can go to the gym and exercise every day but if you don't work on improving the health in other areas of your life your fitness level won't improve. To really be fit you need to eat good food and make good lifestyle decisions. In addition to caring for your mind and soul, care for your body with regular exercise. Work with someone who knows what they are doing, be practical and use your common sense and eventually you will achieve a wonderful level of fitness.
