How to easily install self-adhesive wallpaper

If you're considering redecorating a room or house, just the word wallpaper may give you a headache. Wallpapering is known for being a tedious process to put up and an even bigger inconvenience to remove that requires hours of steaming and scrapping that most people don't have the time for. However, now that wallpaper comes in simple peelable and strippable papers it's never been easier to give your home a sassy new look that plain old paint can't offer. Follow these basic wallpaper installation steps and give your home that fabulous touch it needs!

Before you begin make sure the wall surface is clean and all blemishes and holes removed, spackled, or sandpapered. If there is any existing wallpaper or a glossy paint finish, you will need to remove it or paint over it with a coat of primer paint. If you don't those types of wall coverings will interfere with how the new wallpaper will adhere. Tools you will need to install your new wallpaper include spackle, sandpaper, sponge, a putty knife, wallpaper and water.

First measure and cut your wallpaper into properly sized pieces. Give yourself at least 2 inches of overlap. You can always remove extra paper; however you cannot add paper without it being noticeable.

Next it's time to prepare the self-adhesive paper. You should first soak it in water according to the package directions. Let any excess water drip off the paper before applying.

Now it's time to apply the paper to the wall. Decide where you would like to start, and then by working from ceiling to floor, place the paper carefully onto the wall leaving some excess paper at the top. Once the paper is straight, unfold the rest and smooth it on the wall using a brush or knife. Gently force any air bubbles out of the paper, and use a sponge to wipe the outside of the wallpaper to remove any excess adhesive. Then use your putty knife to remove the any extra adhesive from the top of the wall.

After you've finished make sure you have removed all adhesive from the wallpaper. Then make sure there is no curling or bubbling in the paper. If there is you can make a small cut in the bubble to smooth it out or use a steam roller if there is any curling.

If you have completed all of these steps then you have successfully installed your new snazzy wallpaper. Now it's time to enjoy and show of your homes fabulous new look!
