subject: Philanthropreneurs – Care in the Commercial World [print this page] Philanthropreneurs Care in the Commercial World
We read about it all the time, the fat cat city bankers who take millions in salaries and bonuses, the business leaders who seem to be as noted for their place on the rich list as they are for what they actually do and the celebrities who earn fortunes - just for being famous. We read about it so often we actually take their wealth for granted, how many of us actually appreciate what it means to be a billionaire or to be earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per second? Frankly, it is all way beyond the comprehension of most everyday people.
Certainly half of the World population, some three billion people, who are surviving on less than $2.50 a day have little chance of understanding how such wealth can even exist let alone be achievable. They will most likely never be in a position to start a business that will even feed themselves or their families let alone support others. So those who are in a position to run a successful business making more profit, than they will personally ever need, are waking up to the fact that we all have a duty to help the less fortunate. Some companies pass on all their profits to good causes, some just a percentage. But the fact they are passing over anything at all is progress indeed.
One such individual who has discovered the caring path here in the UK is Dawn Gibbins MBE. A lady who made her fortune through marketing her father's brilliant inventions in the field of specialist flooring. She recognised his brilliance and turned it into a highly successful international company. Now she has chosen to turn her business ability towards helping those in need in her local area. She was invited to appear on the TV programme "Secret Millionaire" and was introduced to an entirely new view on the plight of others much less fortunate than herself. Having met and worked with the needy in the programme she instantly donated some 400,000 of her own money to their causes. She has since formed the Barefoot Foundation and her work goes on. The first hand experience she had through the making of the programme completely changed her life. Find out more about Dawn Gibbins at: www.thebarefootfoundation.co.uk you are certain to be inspired by what this lady is doing.
Another such individual is Duncan Goose, a former advertising executive who suddenly decided, after a conversation with friends in a pub, that he wanted to do more for the Worlds poor, so set about establishing "The One Foundation" which now markets a whole range of products including Tea, Water and Chocolate, amongst others, to make profits that he turns into positive aid for Africa. So many have been helped by the One Foundations provision of Playpumps (for drawing well water), Sanitation, Nutrition and Microfinance that, no doubt, many lives have been saved in the process. A truly remarkable man, who has achieved no end of benefits for others just because he had the vision in his heart to do it.
Now it is the turn of myself, Trevor Krueger, to do something to help those who can't help themselves. I too believe that we must all do what we can to fight poverty and injustice and share an ability to generate funds that can be used to help those who really need it.
My chosen cause is that of abused children and women around the World, something that occurs not due to natural disaster or displacement but the straight forward exploitation by others who seek to benefit from their vulnerability. By raising funds to build and equip Refuge Homes in locations such as Cambodia, India and Ghana I aim to remove these children from the perpetual circle of repeat abuse and rehabilitate them through access to safety, nutrition, education and a new outlook on life that will help them learn that not everyone in the world is out to abuse them. Global Ambassador Helping Hands will do all it can to bring the plight of such children to the World's attention and act quickly to fight and prevent abuse at every level.
It is my belief that there is only one thing preventing everyone in the World living a safe and productive life, the "misdribution of wealth" a phrase I use to describe the poor distribution of the World's wealth from those who have too much to those who don't have any. If all that is available was shared more equally there would be far less hunger or poverty in the World.
Can we all change our attitudes and think less of ourselves and more about others? The World would certainly be a much better place if we could.
Do you have the desire and ability to become a Philanthropreneur? I certainly hope you do for the more of us there are out there doing what we can for those who can't do anything; the more we make the world a better place to live in.
Global Ambassador is working to create a true Global Community in which we all live happily and healthily sharing our common home Planet Earth.
