Discover The Other Side Of The Canaries On Cheap Holidays This Winter

Cheap holidays to the Canary Islands are a great way of getting some winter sun. Warm weather throughout the year and wide variety of tour operators offering cheap holidays mean the Canaries represent an affordable alternative to holidays to far-flung destinations. Whether you're looking to enjoy a relaxing family break or the chance to unwind with friends, you're sure to find somewhere in the Canaries that fits the bill. Here is a bit of information about a few of the most popular islands and resorts.

With 128 beaches on the island, holidays to Gran Canariaare ideal for beach lovers. Probably the most famous - and most striking - is Maspalomas, on the island's southern tip, with its seemingly endless golden dunes. On the opposite end of the island, Playa de Las Canteras in the centre of the capital Las Palmas boasts nearly two and a half miles of pristine white sand. But there's more to Gran Canaria than beaches. Over forty per cent of the island is protected UNESCO biosphere reserve, and the mountainous interior and the green north-west of the island offer cooler temperatures and some breathtaking scenery

Lanzarote has not always enjoyed the best of reputations as a tourist destination. With a combination of breathtaking interior landscapes, enticing golden-sand beaches and elegant colonial towns, it is a brilliant holiday spot for people of all ages. One of Lanzarote's main attractions, Timanfaya National Park is a remarkable volcanic landscape. Named after the volcano which violently erupted several times between 1730 and 1736, burying large parts of the island, it can be explored by coach or on foot. The relaxed atmosphere of Playa Blanca has made it one of the most popular resorts on the island. As well as the old port, visitors can take a stroll along the chic modern marina and window shop in some of the smart boutiques.

An island of stark contrasts, Tenerife offers vibrant resorts, picturesque landscapes and great beaches. In the south, large hotels and bustling restaurants and bars line the beachfront of resorts such as Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. These resorts are ideal for families and groups looking for cheap holidays and a host of fun-filled activities. Life in the north of the island is more sedate. Perched on a hillside overlooking a rugged plain, the picturesque town of San Cristobal de La Laguna is a world away from the neon lights of Playa de Las Americas. The rugged terrain surrounding San Cristobal remains relatively unspoilt by commercial tourism and, with its cooler climate, is perfect for hikers.
