subject: Student Life In College: Your Life In A College Dorm [print this page] College years are unique; it is evident that during your studies at college you are surrounded by people who are so happy and young, just like you are. Student life does not last for long but you are sure to remember it forever. Parties, holidays, student clubs, tests, exams, sports competitions. However, one of the brightest impressions of almost all non-local alumni is usually about the dorm (short form of dormitory) they used to live in.
Types of college dorms
Nowadays almost all colleges and universities have dorms that can satisfy the needs of almost all students.
1.There are dorms where only freshmen live. This means that you will be among your peers and your parties will not get on the nerves of seniors.
2.There are dorms for students of one gender only. Some students may find it perfect while other will be unsatisfied (probably, male students). Anyway, you can always choose a coed dorm to live in if you want to socialize with different people.
3.International dorms. These are special dorms for students who come from abroad to study in America. This does not necessarily mean that an American student will not be admitted to such a dorm, but the priority is sure to be given to an international student.
4. There are also special dorms that are called quiet dorms or sometimes there are quiet floors in usual dorms. It is evident that the name speaks for itself, the residents of such dorms devote much time and effort to their studies. The most common concern of people who are going to live in quiet dorms is that the will be bored to death there. Though it may be partially true, they still have parties even in quiet dorms.
Basic rules in college dorms
It does not really matter what the type of dorm you live in is if the residents follow basic dorm rules.
1.Alcohol abuse is strictly prohibited in dorms.
2.Pets are not allowed.
3.Loud music and all types of noise are prohibited if it is late.
