From time immemorial, writing has been a tool favored by mankind as a way of passing on information. Granted other mediums such as music and poetry have helped preserve a lot of things, but none has done quite as well as the written word. Then when capitalism was invented, article marketing become another way to pass on information; Information about products and services, and as the old adage says "knowledge is power". First it was through delivering letters ad mail to peoples' box numbers, then the invention of the internet of course made this tool of communicating even more widely used.
The question of whether this mode (articles marketing) is actually dying has very many facets: who determines that something is no longer worth it or not? What other land marks can we use to determine what is happening to article marketing? I find that articles marketing is actually not dying, but rather, taking on a new face. Other writers are scared that with the advent of video technology, people will most definitely prefer the video to the article. What they forget is that even that video requires a script, which can be obtained out of an article written- hence a new face; then there is the whole idea that there is less money to make out of article writing now than there was then, that may well be true- but is that because there are less websites requiring these articles or is it because there are more people joining the race and so the cake is slip out more widely? Does this therefore imply that the use is decreasing or increasing? The internet is reaching more and more people every day in all corners of the world, so the market is simply expanding everyday!
And to wonder whether articles marketing are dying sort of implies that it is still alive to a certain extent; then it becomes necessary to find out what is killing it as well. The number of article marketers who do not do the necessary research is embarrassing, to say the least; areas such as keyword research should never be ignored by any writer worth their salt, for it is by this that the traffic will come your way. Then there are those who simply write anything that looks like an article; this can really drive down the traffic! With the volume of traffic that is on the internet, nobody is interested in wasting time on an article that is not informative or/ educative.
So whilst it may be true for some that article marketing no longer works for them, I do not believe this, I believe that we article marketers should look to be more dynamic and dictate the trend rather than it dictating us.
