Out-of-body experiences:
can be fun and exciting and you may want to know how to get one. In a nutshell, an out-of-body experience is a transitory state where the mind temporarily leaves the body and enters another plane of existence -- the astral plane. This phenomenon is also known as astral projection or astral travel.
Out-of-body experiences are as varied and random as they can get. You may feel a spiritual sense of fulfillment after one. At times, you can wake up from the event with the sensation of being loved, while others will leave you anxious and frightened.
You may already have encountered an out-of-body experience without knowing it. Out-of-body experiences usually manifest as short, dreamlike states where you find yourself disconnected from your physical self and are able to observe your body from a distance as if you were another person.
This mysterious event lasts no more than a few moments and typically happens when you are sleeping or about to fall asleep. Out-of-body experiences are usually triggered when you are ill, tired or stressed and when you are going through a life-and-death situation.
Out-of-body experiences occur spontaneously in about one out of five individuals. It is possible, however, to intentionally initiate an out-of-body experience. Here are three steps on how you can do this:
* Relax:
For an out-of-body experience to take place, your mind and body both have to be relaxed. The best way to relax is to assume a comfortable position. Lying in bed usually does the trick.
Make sure that you are wearing comfortable clothing and that the room temperature is neither too warm nor too cold. It also helps if you take a few deep breaths and exhale slowly through your mouth.
* Concentrate:
Once you are relaxed, you can begin concentrating. Your goal is to reach a state between sleep and wakefulness. Be careful not to fall asleep while doing this!
Close your eyes and clear your mind by focusing your thoughts on a spot at the back of your head or between your temples. You can also mentally reach out an arm towards a distant object and concentrate on bringing the object towards you.
If you concentrate properly, you will soon sense vibrations in the area you are concentrating on. These vibrations indicate that you are nearing an out-of-body experience.
When you feel these vibrations, you should concentrate on pulling them inside your head. If you are successful, your body will start to shake and you are ready to take the last step in getting an out-of-body experience.
* Release Your Mind:
The last step you need to take in order to have an out-of-body experience is to release your mind from your body. To do this, you must concentrate on getting out of your physical body.
Many are able to free themselves from their physical bodies by concentrating on being weightless and floating towards the ceiling. Others mentally roll away from their bodies.
Do not be discouraged if your attempts on inducing an out-of-body experience meet with failure. It takes time and a lot of patience to master this skill. If you practice constantly, you will soon be able to commence out-of-body experiences at will.
