subject: 5 Of The Best English And Irish Pubs In Nyc [print this page]

There are a number of excellent English and Irish pubs in New York City. Below, a look at some of my favourites.

Dennehy's: This is a true and authentic Irish pub on the New York pub scene and its patrons are mostly in the twenties through to late forties. The food served here is really good and the place is really known for its quality Guinness, the quintessential Irish drink. It has LCDs put up at strategic spots in the pub on which national as well international sport is shown. The pub is situated in the Greenwich Village.

The Dead Poet: Located on Amsterdam Avenue, Dead Poet is truly unique as far as the pubs in the City are concerned. This pub celebrates not only Irish food, drink and music but also poetry and other works of art. The food is decent but it is the quality of drinks, especially Guinness and beer which is appreciated the most. Moreover, you also stand a good chance of getting your name written on a plaque and put behind the bar if you are a frequent visitor to the place and purchase enough beer to be noticed by the staff and the management alike.

Manchester Pub: Located on 920 2nd Avenue, the name itself is enough to suggest that its a true English styled pub. While most of the drinks are available in bottles, there are a decent number of them available on tap. The food is really good and includes popular dishes such as Manchester Burgers, Shepherds pie and bangers and mash.

Wheeltapper: This is one of the best Irish pubs in the city and is a part of the hotel Fitzpatrick Grand Central. Along with lovely Irish food, heady concoctions of Irish drinks and live music, the pub also provides an informal environment where you can talk with your friends, colleagues and companions. The Patio, attached to the front end of the hotel is opened till 11pm while the Wheeltapper is opened till 2am.

Houndstooth Pub: Located in the neighborhood of the Hells Kitchen, Houndstooth booth offers fine English liquor along with delectable food and a great game that is telecast on the wide screen LCDs that are smartly positioned around the pub. The Seared Duck salad is one of the best dishes on the menu. The dcor of the pub is done in true English style and the place is open from afternoon 3P.M. till midnight, means once you get in, you have plenty of time to spend while you are at the joint.
