With millions of people owning driving licences, its a wonder that there aren't more accidents on Britain's roads than there are. But if you are someone who spends a large portion of time behind the wheel, then a recent study conducted in the USA might make you think twice about walking to the office tomorrow.

A report from an American company has revealed that one in five drivers (equivalent to about thirty eight million Americans) could not pass a written driving test if they were to take ti today. A shocking number of people with drivers licences fail to be able to demonstrate the basic rules or the road, like stopping distances, braking times and even the very basics, like what to do when you come up to a yellow light. One participant even replied that you should get through the light quickly before it turns to red' which is quite a worry for pedestrians and other road users at intersections.

Although in America the rules are far more lax than in Great Britain in regards to the driving test, with tests differing from state to state. However, in California you have to take a written test, but can have as little as three lessons before taking your test. In England, with a much stricter marking regimen, the test is harder to pass, but ultimately, these results are a worry even in England. Could you pass your test again if asked to take it now? Some of our older generations may have not even had to take a test, as they were only introduced in the 1930's in England. If you had been driving before this time, then it was your parents who approved your driving skills.

If you are driving in England, you need a valid driving licence and Car Insurance before getting on the roads.
