subject: Choosing The College: Where To Find Reliable Information? [print this page]

Please, do not hope that your future college will come to you in a dream or that a fortune teller will show you which college to choose with the help of a crystal ball. Neither your parents should be the people who will choose your college instead of you, though they can become your best advisors in this matter. Still, the final choice is yours and to make it you should be a calm and mature person who has a lot of information about colleges. So, before searching for a college, you should find the sources of information about colleges.

Where to search for information about colleges?

Guides to colleges and universities. You can find such guides in all nearby newsstands. There you can find basic information on the colleges, these guides are usually concise but they are perfect helpers during the initial stage of your search.

Search the Internet. All colleges and universities have their own educational web sites that are accessible to everyone. Usually they provide special links for future applicants specially; you can find them very informative.

Talk to people who are studying or used to study in the colleges you have an eye on. Personal experience can be more helpful than rigid information on the number of dorms and regalia of the professors working at the college. Students or former students will tell you about the atmosphere at college, their impressions, maybe they will even open you some secrets of the college.

Visit campuses to see the truth with your own eyes. Though all the above mentioned sources are good and reliable, they say that seeing is believing. It is always better to see the college with your own eyes to make a final decision.
