Audi have unveiled their vision for service stations of the future at Design Miami 2010.
The electric vehicle charging station, dubbed the e-den, is described by Audi as a paradise'. Envisioned to make waiting for electric vehicles to charge relaxing and engaging, the futuristic station was made using sustainable materials, is filled with fresh potted herbs, magazines and books, and sells organic foods.
Graphic designer Mirko Borsche, who designed the e-den for Audi, wanted to create a contrast between the cozy interior and the modern, reflective exterior. On the show floor the 1950's American gas pump serves as a reminder of the oil dependant past', whilst the e-tron Spyder, Audi's plug in hybrid drive, is a reminder of what the future could hold. "Our aim in creating this installation is to heighten the public's awareness of the wide range of challenges electromobility presents," commented Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Audi Board of Management for Marketing and Sales.
"And we provide food for thought - not just about electric vehicles themselves, but also about the infrastructure that will have to be created to support electric mobility," he added.
The idea is part of Audi's Urban Future Award 2010 architectural competition and for the time being is nothing more than a vision. Motorists won't be charging their electric Audi R8 in Hampshire paradise anytime soon
