Jack Black plays a deadbeat newspaper mailroom clerk who finagles (fantasizes?) a travel story assigment that lands him in the tiny-people land of Lilliput by way of the Bermuda Triangle. My guess is that everybody involved in this production, including cast members Jason Segel, Emily Blunt, Amanda Peet, and Billy Connolly, wishes they could be shrunk down to nothingness. Grade: F (Rated PG for brief rude humor, mild language, and action.)

Faithful TV version of Jonathan Swift's 1726 satiric novel. Lemuel Gulliver (Danson) is confined to Bedlam, an English insane asylum, after having been lost at sea for eight years. While in the asylum he relates his very odd adventures--in the tiny land of Lilliput, among the giants of Brobdingnag, with the silly and impractical intellectuals of Laputa, and finally amidst the brutish human Yahoos, who are ruled by rational talking horses, the Houyhnhnms. Meanwhile, Gulliver's wife Mary (Steenburgen) and son Tom (Sturridge) struggle to prove his sanity and win his release. On two cassettes.
Unlike Disney's "Snow White," which was preeminently a fairy tale for adults, Max Fleischer's feature-length cartoon of "Gulliver's Travels" is a fairy tale for children and for children almost exclusively. As such we have no hesitation in recommending the Paramount's new film as a pleasant and diverting animated picture-book, drawn in the brightest Technicolor, happily free from ogres, hobgoblins and other nightmare-breeders, and so broad in its humor that the littlest 4-year-old can scarcely miss its jokes.
