Get More Traffic from Your Videos

If you have a home based business then you probably already know that videos and podcasting are really good ways to drive traffic to your feeder and money making sites. A great way to get extra traffic from your videos is to split them up. There are a few ways to do this: you can take a single video and split it in half or you can make a second video by editing the original down into a teaser.

When you do this both videos can be sent out separately to the same sites, this will give you twice the amount of backlinks to your site along with extra exposure and will also increase your traffic, which will of course help you to make more money.

We took a video review from PewPew-Podcast.com and, with their permission, edited it down from seven minutes into one minute. I also added a screen with a call to action telling people to visit the site and watch the full review.

After downloading the original MP4 I used a free video conversion tool to change it into an AVI for editing. I then loaded it into my project timeline. The software I use gives me multiple format choices. I can choose to record a video specifically for YouTube, IPhone, and CD etc. In this instance I need to be able to upload the video to as many different websites as possible so I chose "web". I also kept the aspect ratio the same in order to avoid distorting the video.

Once the video is fully loaded you can watch it in the editing software to find a good place to cut the video. The beginning of the video included a title screen with a short introduction followed by the actual review. I found a point at around the 1 minute mark and cut out the rest.

With that done I then added a screen containing the call to action which told people to visit the site to watch the full podcast. I then followed this with the title screen to end the video.

This really is a wonderful tactic for driving traffic to your website and making money. Remember to make sure your videos are loaded with keywords and phrases as Google transcribes videos in order to check for relevant content.

A great bit of information to remember is that YouTube take a screen shot from the dead centre of your video and use that as a thumbnail so adding the title screen to the centre of your video is a great way to make sure you get a decent thumbnail instead of the usual blur. We didn't do this for this particular podcast video as there was no good place to add it.

You can see the edited version of the podcast along with a video that shows how it was done at http://www.mymakingmoneyideas.com/

Information on all of the software and recourses we use can be found at our website.
