I got this computer during the lightening sale & since their was no webcam when amazon advertised their was a webcam, they gave me a credit for their mistake. For the price we paid for this computer, you really can't get a better bargain. The computer works great & amazon made good for their error. We have no problem with this computer even if it doesn't have a webcam & mic.Whats to say. A real bargain from Amazon. Looks great runs fast, nice texture on the case too. My 3rd Toshiba. I keep them about 3 years then give them to my kids. I got a new machine for around $300 No shipping no sales tax no disposal fee like Best Guys
My husband and I have been Amazon Prime customers for years, and very rarely have had problems with anything we've purchased on this site. However, on Black Friday on their Lightning Deal they had a bad description re: this Toshiba laptop. This was a gift for my Mom in Hawai'i because we wanted to Skype with her using a laptop with a built in webcam and mike. As soon as she got the laptop and indicated there was no webcam, I contacted Amazon's customer service to see how the situation could be resolved given I didn't think it made sense to ship an otherwise perfectly acceptable laptop back from Hawai'i if I could get some sort of credit to pay for a webcam/mike purchase. Their partial refund offer they worked out was more than acceptable, and I used that to buy a webcam for my Mom which she should be getting in the next few days. I could've even bought a HD webcam with the refund they gave, but unfortunately the GHz on this laptop didn't justify such a purchase. It wasn't an ideal situation at all since a built-in would've been much better for my Mom, but their customer service made it as right as they could quickly and I am very happy with the solution. From a long time customer, Amazon has now ensured my continued loyalty for a quite a while and I cannot say anything but good about their customer service.
Another review from someone who seemingly paid too much for this notebook, an extra $70 to be exact. Bought it as a gift for someone who won't have much use for the missing webcam and microphone. The $20 gift certificate helps a little; $40-$50 would have been more appropriate. Anyways, the review:
Pros: Full-sized keyboard + keypad has a nice feel. The touchpad works better than expected, especially when you enable the "glide" feature in the Toshiba driver. Screen is bright and crisp and seems to display HD content well as long as you don't sit too far to either side. The speakers sound okay once the boosters and equalizer are enabled. Adding an extra 1GB of RAM bumped the Windows Experience Index up to 4.5 (it's 4.2 out of the box). The textured surfaces are also a welcome improvement over some of the high gloss finishes one sees on competing brands. Creating the System Restore discs was fairly easy (took four 4.7GB DVD-R discs; no coasters).
Cons: Only two USB ports and both are on the left-hand side even though most people will use a mouse on the right-hand side. The optical drive sits so close to the power jack that it often catches on the power cord when ejecting. The FN key graphics are grey (hard to see) and the volume controls are in a weird place (FN+3/4). No LED on the Ethernet jack so it's hard to tell if you have a live connection. Lack of color-coding on the audio IN/OUT jacks make it hard to identify which is which. No physical switch for turning off WiFi. Deciphering which Toshiba apps were commerce-ware that could be removed was a challenge. Linux: recent versions of Ubuntu 64bit seem to work fine.
