Apparently the Ninja fighters in Japan start off their training when only mere children. When a Ninja begins training, a bamboo shoot is planted. The child has to jump over that shoot. In the beginning when the bamboo is young, the child can just step over it. As the shoot grows, The youngster has to exert more effort to clear it. This gives the Ninja their agility.

Your agility and stamina grows every time you raise the bar of expectation. I was listening to a great new Christian song which goes something like:

So long status quo

I think I've just let go

You make me want to be brave

The way it always was, is no longer good enough

You make me want to be brave.

If you are just cruising in life, chances are that you won't meet any opposition, face any challenges or overcome any obstacles. But you are not growing either!

So say goodbye to your status quo, to your comfort zone. Cut the strings that hold you back and start facing the challenges that will ultimately give you the strength of character you deserve.

If you are facing difficult situations, rejoice! It may be that the obstacle you face today will give you the "guts" you need tomorrow.

One of my work colleagues is training to do the Kokoda trail in Papua New Guinea. Apparently, it's a gruelling experience that challenges every fibre of your body. Lisa will be walking for 5 to 8 hours a day for 9 days over some of the most rugged terrain imaginable. She trains for hours a day in order to prepare for it. She knows that she needs to push the boundaries of pain, possibility and perseverance in order to meet the challenge.

We may not all be facing a Kokoda trail. But what boundaries are you breaking in order to shape your destiny?
