subject: How To Add Privacy And Security Using Fences [print this page]

Fences have been in use for thousands of years around the world, and today is made from a large variety of materials. The most tried and true material for building fences, however, and the one that has been used since fences were first used, is wood.

Wood fences is still used today in a huge number of applications. This versatile material has many advantages, and here we will take a closer look at some of the ways in which wood fencing is used. We will also go over some of the benefits wood provides as a fencing material.

One of the oldest types of wood fences is called split-rail fencing. It was used, and still is used, in areas around the United States and Canada where materials for other types of fencing were scarce, such as those that had not yet been fully explored. It is essentially pieces of lumber that are stacked in a criss-crossing manner, so as to create a zigzag fence.

This type of fence is relatively easy and very cheap to build, but requires a relatively large amount of set up and is not very cost-effective in terms of the amount of materials it takes to build a certain amount of fence.

Panel fences are a more common variety of wood fencing today, although they are used primarily in residential and urban areas, as opposed to rural ones. It is useful in residential areas because it provides a sturdy barrier and is attractive to the eye. It can also be used as a privacy barrier, in that the panels can be set close together to block visibility from the outside.

There are also many types of decorative panel fences, such as the classic white picket fence. Decorative fences can be used to keep small kids and pets in a certain area, though they are used primarily to look nice.

Wood fences are also used in agriculture, to keep livestock in particular areas and to keep predators out. They can also be used as boundaries between pieces of land, or to mark off territory within a piece of property.

Another common type of wood fence used in agriculture is hurdle fence, which is composed of moveable pieces of fencing that can be easily relocated in order to provide adjustable fencing. Wood fencing is fantastic because it can be used in virtually any area of the world for any purpose.
