subject: Understanding The History Of Broadcast Marketing [print this page] In a world where technology is growing exponentially our everyday way of life is also changing. Technology is changing the way that we think about the world around us.
The majority of professional careers have been affected tremendously by the new technologies that are emerging. Just the fact that almost all professionals have an e-mail shows how much technology has changed the work place.
There are some careers that have changed dramatically as a result of technology. Marketing is one of the careers that is constantly changing as technology changes.
The goal of marketing is to reach a certain population of people. Once the marketers have reached these people they must present their message in a way that shows their product in a good light at makes the customer want to purchase the product.
Before computers existed marketers would send out fliers, mailers, coupons and put ads in newspapers. This meant that anyone with a mailbox was being reached.
Coupons were used a lot and just when the marketing community felt that they had the art of mailing down computers started to come around. People were getting the majority of their mail on the computer and traditional mail was labeled snail mail.
Marketers were ready for the challenge and started to advertise their products online. The public got smart to these attempts to market very quickly.
They started to ignore the sidebar ads and put filters on their e-mail to prevent the marketers from getting to them. On top of this, smart phones came out and became a big hit.
The marketing community had to react and change with technology very quickly. This is when telephone broadcast began to make its emergence.
Many different marketing companies decided that if they could just get telephone numbers of people that were interested in their product they would be able to get a hold of them and tell them their pitch in person.
This meant that they would be much likely to get people to hear them. We have probably all gotten those automated calls before and as soon as we realize that the call is automated we hang up.
When the marketers realized that people were just hanging up as soon as they heard the computerized voices they decided that they would have to have real humans start to make the calls.
Broadcast marketing consists of a large group of real people making calls to thousands of different phone numbers. They are able to give the personal touch and deliver the message that needs to be delivered.
The customers are much quicker to listen to a real human voice. Not only can they listen to this person's voice but they are able to ask questions and get to go know the marketer.
Instead of marketing staying impersonal and getting to be more and more broad it has had to become more and more specific and personal. This helps the marketers understand the customer.
There are some people that do not like it when a marketer calls their phone. The United States instituted a no call list that disabled any marketer from calling someone's phone number if that person chose to list their number on the no call list.
Marketing had to then react to this bill, so they started to find ways to generate leads. These leads are phone numbers that individuals freely give your company.
If you have ever filled out a survey and included your telephone number noting that it is okay for someone to call you and someone does call you, it is because your phone number became a lead for that company. No longer were the marketers dialing random phone numbers.
The success rate of the marketing companies was also able to improve vastly. When you talk to someone that is already interested enough in your product to give you his or her phone number you know that they are much more likely to buy what you have to sell.
The leads come from many different places and marketers make sure that the lead forms get out there so that the public has a chance to fill them out. If the leads are not out there than no one would ever be contacted.
The face of marketing has changed dramatically in the past few years. If you or your company is looking to market a product you should seriously consider broadcast marketing.
Although broadcast marketing will not work for every product out there, if you find that it works for you it can bring you great success.
