subject: Obesity In America [print this page]

The multitude of ways that obesity negatively effects human health is wide spread and dangerous. In a society where looks are so highly valued, the exaggerated importance of losing fat for appearance-sake is mislead and sets us up for failure. To take a look at the human body and see organs saturated and suffocating in fat cells, blood unable to pump and flow freely through the bodies veins and arteries, and joints ground down to the bone should be enough to make a lifelong change and commit to better health. Instead, women look at magazines of ectomorph (genetic predisposition to being lean and light) body shapes, and read about what they should 'look' like if they want to get a man. Workout routines are designed and sold to people based on how they might look, as opposed to how they will live longer, and give their bodies the best chance at a good life.

This type of society is a sad one. Why not celebrate life? Why not give yourself every possible opportunity to love and care for yourself and your loved ones? Obesity is killing America. There is a simple co-relation between good health and quality of life. As good health increases, so too does quality of life. There are so many ways that simply getting a sturdy and consistent workout routine can change an individuals life, far to many for the scope of this article. However, there are a few things that you can be aware of if you are in the obesity category of overweight, or heading in that direction. Your chances of developing diabetes type II is severely increased. Your chances of developing heart disease is severely increased. The chance of developing thyroid and liver dysfunction are severely increased. I'm sure you can see a pattern here; it's a bad place to be overall.

With the epidemic of child obesity, we are setting the future of the American people up for failure. Can you imagine the burden on the health care system? Can you imagine the billions of dollars that will have to go into taking care of children who have become unhealthy and obese young adults? Unhealthy behavior breeds more and more of itself. Its time for a change. Think about your and your children's future and make the right, healthy choices. Get active and be an example to your family. In the process, you'll have fun, start to feel and look better (yes, it's a part of it), and your body will be grateful you are looking out for the well being your health.

Its just a few simple steps. Start with looking at what you are eating. Get rid of the junk, replace it with whole, natural foods. If you buy something and its not in its natural form, its generally going to cause you to put on weight. Next, start workout routines every day or every other day. It can be anything. Moving more is positive in general. Do it first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, on your way to work, home from work, in the living room, while you watch TV. You get the idea. Eat less, move more and stop the unhealthy cycle.
