Training in Cold Weather
Just because the snow is thick and heavy on the ground and you are unable to get to SOS Executive training in the gym at Cardiff, doesn't mean you can reduce your training regime. Ultimately, when it is cold your body uses more energy doing the most basis things.
I am lucky as I live walking distance from Bannatynes in Newport, so if I don't fancy training at home, I can trudge across the road and continue my rehabilitation training for my back and Grade two whiplash. I find the walk across very "fresh" if not downright freezing! But when I get there and have warmed up, I still complete my training program, with lots of treadmill running, cross training and cycling. This is sprinkled with upper arm weights and leg crunches. When I have warmed up and completed my training, I then swim for 40 minutes before totally defrosting in the sauna and Jacuzzi.
If I don't have time to get to the gym in Newport, I am becoming better at doing training at home whether that be planks, running up and down 3 flights of stairs or simple stretches. I am one of the worst people for being disciplined and committed to training however I have found little and often is better and doesn't feel such a chore. Also my back is benefiting from the extra exercise and I am finding myself with more energy doing things.
Also with all this training, I will be able to justify the extra drink/ chocolate over the festive period.
