Having had a flu jab in early November I thought I would miss out on all the usual winter flu and coughs and colds. What I wasn't expecting was to pick up a horrendous winter bug that had me wishing I could curl up and hide under a stone.
Having eaten usually throughout the day, I then had an early night until my stomach decided otherwise, having been violently ill all night I was very washed out the next day and could face getting up let alone heading to the gym in Newport to swim and train. When I finally crawled out of bed, I found that my ribs were on full attack along with my neck and back. I felt wretched and really thought I was worse than I was.
That evening, having spent the day struggling to catch my breath and sit, stand or move I went to the Chiropractor, who advised I had pulled 6 ribs! Didn't think anything of this, until I was unwell again that night and went to the doctors in the morning. A very unsympathetic doctor told me I had pulled my diaphragm and as such would find it difficult to breath, drive, lift etc. Strangely, think he was right! I then drove to see friends in Welshpool for the weekend, which was possibly not a brilliant move, as found it really hard driving for 2hours. However it was brilliant catching up, just rather painful driving up there and back.
After a few days of being slightly sensible, reducing the upper weights training and swimming, I have recovered well enough not to be too concerned about doing further damage. I am sure when I get back to the gym in Cardiff SOS Executive Training will put me through my paces and remind me how broken I have been recently.
