subject: Wine All The Way Home [print this page] Spain's wine produce is some of the best the world has to offer so it's always worthwhile sitting up and taking notice of their produce. Even if you aren't a major wine lover, me included, when abroad we all drink a fair bit of the local produce whilst trying to take in a little of the culture.
One creation to come out of the Costa Blanca region was launched in nearby Torrevieja a few years ago, made courtesy of the Spanish wine producers La Mata. The white wine has a dry, fresh body and is perfect for drinking with meals under the summer sun, a true taste of Spain and indeed the resort of Costa Blanca.
Merseguer grapes are used to make the wine and they are grown in the La Mata Natural Park. It was named Humedal which is translated to 'wetland' in English; I think I prefer the Spanish version though.
With around 9 tonnes of Merseguer grapes collected a year from the natural park it is plain to see that the Spanish love their wine and it is definitely a good idea to sample some if you ever visit Costa Blanca. Nearby areas like Alicante also have a passion for wine producing and many of their own locally grown brands.
The local produce can be found in many of the top quality restaurants around the resort even if you head to restaurant whose cuisine is aimed at another nationality such as Italian or British, you will always find they are well stocked on Spanish wine. The top quality cuisine followed by 5 star wine make for good nights and the popularity of Costa Blanca supports that statement.
There are many other great wines to try when you are selecting a drink such as Misteleta which is a sweet wine and there's Horchata which is made from tiger nuts. Of course there is always the house favourite sangria.
With plenty of wines to choose from your sure to find a delight and perhaps something you can become accustomed to. Like many who revisit the beautiful resort of Costa Blanca wine is the drink of choice because of its high standard and wide variety on offer there. You may even be tempted to take a few bottles home on your trip to a local vineyard.
The wine is only one on a large list of reason why cuisine in Costa Blanca is so good. The reason the list is so big is because of the high traffic of tourism every year to the resort which demands high quality when it comes to food and drink to appease visitors and to entice them to make the return journey in the future, which most do.
