subject: Wooden Floors And How They Can Make Your House A Home [print this page]

Making your house feel like a home is an extremely important aspect for many people who are also home owners. It may take some time, effort, and money to get everything exactly how you would like it to be, however, it can be done, regardless of the condition it is in when you first begin to create a more homely and comfortable atmosphere.

In many parts of world home owners have been able to create a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere, simply through changing their current flooring to wood. Once you have a wooden floor, you will never want to go back to another type, as the fresh, clean lines that wood can create are extremely difficult to achieve any other way. There are many types of wooden floorings available in the market today so it is important to create a visual in your mind that takes into account your individual needs, your personality, and the most ideal look that you can create. After you have this visual in your mind, you may then need to consider your budget, after all, a fabulous look that can turn your house into a home will most certainly cost money.

When it comes to wood and floors, you will find that there are many varieties to choose from. Some of these include:

Solid hardwood

Engineered hardwood

Parquetry

Floating wood

Long-strip hardwood

Exotic hardwood

Polished and coated wood

Raw wood

Solid hardwood floors are available that are made from a single piece of timber. These types are generally used for structural purposes, for floors, and in building frames. Engineered wood flooring is made up of two or more layers that are made from planks of wood. Polished wood can really make quite a contribution to the homely feel you are trying to achieve, and they can further accentuate the clean, fresh lines, within the home.

When you have a great looking uniform floor throughout the house, you will find that even your existing furniture looks better, and in some cases it may even look new again. However if you have a new floor, then it can be just as exciting to buy new furniture to go along with it, if you have the funds available.

There are some people that enjoy housework, although for the majority of us it can be quite cumbersome. Having your new wood floor installed and rearranging your furniture could just give you the inspiration you have been looking for to keep the house looking fantastic.

Wooden floorings will need to be kept free of dust and will also need mopping, although not as often as a tiled floor would. You will probably find that you do need to sweep over the floor with a soft broom each day, or at least every second day, as dust can accumulate quite quickly. However, once you have swept, the floors will look as good as new again, and if they have a shiny finish you will notice that they are gleaming. When it comes to mopping your wood floors, less is best. By less, I am talking about water. There is no need to saturate the floor in order to make sure it is clean and by doing so you could inadvertently cause some damage. A lightly damp mop should be all it takes to clean the areas around the home, and a great idea would be to finish off with a towel over to remove any excess water.
