subject: Bunch Of Numbers, Want To Read Them Easily? [print this page]

For over thirteen years I worked for a general contractor. My job varied depending on the day and depending on what we had going on at the time. Most of the time I would work with the accounting and answer the phones and be the general receptionist as people came in the office. Then there were the days that we would be bidding a project and so on those days my job was to help the subcontractors get all that they needed and answer their questions. When we were bidding on a job it would become pretty stressful and there would always be a big deadline by the end of the day to have our bid for a project submitted.

If we went in with too high of a price then we wouldn't get the job and that meant no work, but if we didn't evaluate the bids correctly from the subcontractors and we went in too low we would get the job, but we wouldn't be able to really pay all of the bills. We had to make sure that we evaluated every bid and had everything covered.

This was very intense because we all had to do it by hand and read over everything. Technology hadn't come as far as it has now and made things so much simpler. I was talking to a friend of mine that is in construction and he said that now they use translator software to go through all of the job and the bids and it doesn't take anywhere near as much time or people to go through the bids to figure everything out. I look back and think about how nice it would have been to have translator software like that.

That is one example in the construction industry, but in almost every industry there are times that we have to decipher information. Whether it is a bunch of numbers or charting the progress of your company or the sales of a product there are so many different things that companies would like to be able to see clearly on a chart instead of just looking at numbers on a sheet of a paper. For some companies they will create their own program to do these things, but for those that want to keep it simple and rely on other people's expertise of creating programs they can get translator software to do the work for them.
