There are few portable projectors available in the commercial world. Before 2010, owning a portable iPad projector was pretty much impossible - either because the projectors wern't portable or the price was too much! Now the market is being swamped. A huge gap in the market has been exposed following the release of Microvision's SHOWWX and now SHOWWX+. Now queued for release in January 2011 we have the Cinemin Slice Pico Projector. So let's take a look at how the two match up!

It's probably worth mentioning now that the Cinemin Slice isn't exactly a pocket projector. A backpack is more suitable for this system, although it is small and compact and therefore can be transported easily.
So what for the specs?
Well it's not clear cut. The lower contrast ratio of the Cinemin Slice does create a much duller picture and the 1 extra lumen doesn't particularly have anything on the SHOWWX+. The extra 6 pixels are also a non-issue. It's also missing auto-focus - something that has helped the SHOWWX+ get the reputation it has today.
Clearly the big differences here are the speakers. The omission of in-built speakers for the SHOWWX+ makes it a completely different product. One (the Cinemin Slice) is a cumbersome, slightly portable movie system, the other is a fully portable projector without sound. Both have huge positives and both are very different; no doubt by late 2011 there will be a projector on the market that combines the two!
