subject: Could Free Websites Work For You? [print this page] I used to think that setting up a new website would be way too hard for me to do. Making a blog is different - they're easy to do and I set up my first blog about five years ago with no problem. But whenever I thought about setting up my own website, I always figured that getting your own domain name and setting up the site would be something that only a "techie" could do, not me. As it turns out, I was wrong. You can make your own website, and you can even do it for free. Free websites are great for all kinds of people. My volleyball coach told me all about them after he used free hosting to set up a page for our team. He has a girlfriend and she's a great photographer. She's really into it and she takes pictures of our games all the time. Coach made the website so he could show off her pictures and some other stuff about the team.
His girlfriend takes really good pictures with her new Canon 7D digital SLR camera, so I said she should take pictures at all of our games. I told Coach he could set up the website to let people buy them.
When he finished up working on the site I asked him how he did it and did he need to know HTML. Turns out you don't. And even better, there are hundreds of website templates you can use that are already made up. All you have to do is look through them, pick one you like and then use it. I couldn't believe how easy it all sounded.
You can use free websites for a lot of different things. Book clubs, church groups, sports teams ... just about anything you can think of. I "moonlight" as an interior painter and Coach started me thinking that I could set up a free website to make some extra money. I think I'll try it. It sounds easy and it sure couldn't hurt.
