When we say "We are JewishDetroit," this is what we achieve in Support Services to Maintain the Independence of Older Adults:
This past year Federation agencies served over 5,500 older adults with an array of support services that are necessary to enable them to live independently in their own homes, preventing more costly, and unwarranted, institutionalization.
Federation funds subsidized support services by approximately $4 million from the Campaign and restricted funds.
To address current wait lists, an additional $550,000 is needed for in-home supports, escorted transportation, and geriatric case management.
The ElderLink network of services provides a continuum of care through supportive programs and services for Jewish older adults in a variety of living environments.
ElderLink is a partnership of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and the following agencies:
Jewish Senior Life:Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan Detroit is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults of the Metropolitan Jewish community through the provision of personalized, high quality programs and services that support aging with dignity and choice, to maximize independence and embrace Jewish values.
Jewish Community Center:The heart of the neighborhood and home address of Detroit's Jewish community, providing social, recreational, educational and cultural programs and activities appealing to all ages and interests. Detroit's JCC operates two facilities: in Oak Park on the A. Alfred Taubman Jewish Community Campus and in West Bloomfield on the Eugene & Marcia Applebaum Jewish Community Campus.
Jewish Family Service:Building healthy families, JFS provides social services, healthcare management, crisis intervention, behavioral health counseling, immigration support and resettlement services to individuals and families in the metro Detroit area. A beneficiary agency of both Federation and United Way, JFS serves people regardless of race, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
JVS:Realizing life's potential, JVS helps people from all walks of life with challenges affecting their self-sufficiency. Services include vocational retraining, behavioral counseling, support and advocacy for those with physical, developmental or mental disabilities.
