So, you've decided to be an Internet Marketer. Why would you want to know how to find keywords for a website? You've probably been through the pains of creating a website or a blog. You've even gone and boosted your social media presence. That's great. But you're still not getting any traffic even though your website looks pretty good and your product is amazing. I could give you one clue why that's happening you're not friends with Google. If you want to be friends with Google and learn how to find keywords for a website, please read on.
What are Keywords?
Before I show you how to find keywords for a website, you need a good understanding of what they are. Keywords are the words on your website that make it easier for other people to find it. Let's say for example that you have a website service that features the best car loan deals on the Internet. The problem is, you named it something cool but meaningless like Yahaa.com.
Anyway, because you named your website Yahaa.com, Google would probably show your website whenever somebody searches for the word "Yahaa" on the Google Search Engine Results Page. Since "yahaa" is not really a word or just a made up word, the probability that someone would search for it and find your website is very, very small.
To fix that, you must write about the product, thing or word that you want Google to index. Since the example that we gave is a website about "best car loan deals" it would do you a lot of good, if you wrote about it, or hire a writer to post many articles on your blog with the words "best car loan deals".
What Do You Want?
Finding keywords for a website is all about finding what you want to sell. It could be a product or a service. You have to put yourself in the shoes of another person or better yet, many other people in order to get an idea of what people type to find things.
Basic Search
The first step in finding keywords is you. If you want to find the best car deals on the Internet what would you type on Google? Try to think of at least 20 phrases. Those are your primary keywords. Now, from that list of 20 keywords, pick the ones that you think, you would always use.
The problem with this method is that not everybody thinks like you. Everybody has their own special and unique way to work their way around Google. Some people, don't even use Google, and just use social networks and ask their friends about "the best car deals." In other words, this is not the best and certainly not the only way how to find keywords for a website. So, now what?
Statistics Are Your Friend
Some people actually make a living just by collecting the words that people type on search engines. Google does it on its own and is nice enough to share it with the public for free. After all, search advertisements are Google's primary means for revenue.
Google collects the words and the phrases that everybody types on its search engine and then counts how many times a word is used.
It then presents this in a neat format in a tool called External Keyword Tool. There, it shows you how many times a phrase is used and how many people are already using that particular keyword to drive traffic to their website.
