How can I Get Rid of Shin Splints at Home

Shin splint is a term used to describe any pain at the front of the lower leg but symptoms occur at the front inside of the shin bone. If the pain is first felt when the heel touches the ground during running and becomes constant and if your shin is painful to touch, you have the symptom, tibialis anterior. Don't bother you can get rid of shin splints by treating them at home.

The other symptoms of medial tibial stress syndrome are tibialis posterior and bone shin splints which arise from causes like tendinitis, stress fractures, compartment syndrome, high impact training, excessive training, poor technique or biomechanical problems, standing for long periods and wearing high heeled shoes.

Diagnosis can be done by taking patient history, physical examination, radiology, measuring pressure within the compartments, magnetic resonance imaging and high-resolution x-ray computed tomography scans. Understanding, identifying and treating the underlying problems are helpful in choosing appropriate treatment.

This condition is treated at home with rest and applying ice for 15 minutes session, especially at the early stage. Physiotherapy can also be used to relieve the patient from pain. He may be advised to decrease the duration and intensity of his exercise and build it up slowly. Specially fitted footwear is useful in decreasing the swelling and preventing reoccurrence of shin splints.

One may elevate his foot using pillows to decrease swelling. Toe raises, calf raises and inner and outer thigh raises are effective shin splint exercises which help fast recovery and say good bye to this condition for good.
