subject: Nokia Unveil The New X6 [print this page] Despite the modern popularity of manufacturers such as Palm and Apple, Nokia are perhaps the most famous mobile phone manufacturer in the world. More recently they have become known for great music mobiles, but perhaps not so for great touchscreens. Can the true heavyweight of the division get both of these aspects spot on with their new handset, the Nokia X6.
Putting the screen and music capabilities of this handset to one side for a while, perhaps one of the surprising aspects of this handset is its superb camera facility. The snapper has an excellent 5 mega pixel resolution rating, resulting in great picture quality for general photos or uploads, this is due in part to the autofocus facility, keeping everything in focused wherever you point. The inclusion of a dual LED flash really aides photography where lighting conditions are not ideal ie indoors or evening time. A very overlooked aspect of modern photography is the quality of the lens used. It is perhaps more important than all of the tech spec figures being branded about. Fans of the X6 will be pleased to note that the optics on this model are of the renowned Carl Zeiss variety. These are the same as are fitted on Sony's own digital cameras and they really do give the X6 the edge when it comes to mobile photography. Video capture is also covered at an impressive rate of 30 frames per second, and a video light is also included.
Running on Symbian S60 5th edition, the X6's user interface looks crisp and precise and is easy to navigate, thanks in part to the capacitive touchscreen Nokia have now chosen to use. This 3.2" display responds very well to the slightest touch , and thanks to its high resolution and excellent range of colours (over 16 million) the images are incredibly bright and vivid. An accelerometer chip allows for the fairly industry standard auto rotate function. The screen does seem a huge improvement on some of Nokias earlier efforts. With regards to the music facilities, as you would expect this handset is armed to the teeth. Available in either 32GB or 16GB, storage capacity is never going to be an issue with the X6. A years free access to Nokias "Comes with Music" facility means countless downloading opportunities. A 3.5mm headphone jack and a built in RDS radio round off what is a comprehensive audio package.
The Nokia X6 signals a huge improvement in Nokias touchscreen efforts, making this handset not only appealing to music fans, but to the more general phone user as well. Striking looks and excellent functionality make this unit a bit more than a one trick pony.
