subject: The Nokia X6-a Closer Look [print this page]

There is no question that Nokia have always produced excellent music phones, however the company have somewhat struggled to produce a touchscreen to capture the imagination. Could the much anticipated X6 change this.

Certainly if first impressions are anything to go by, the designers at Nokia have been hard at work on this handset. The X6 looks gorgeous, with sleek lines and a very slim profile enhancing its looks. Measuring 111 x 51 x 13.8 mm, on paper fairly average reading but the phone certainly looks slimmer than it actually is. Perhaps this is due in part to the screen dominating the majority of the front of the unit. This screen measures 3.2" an displays a good quality resolution of 360 x 640 pixels. The images this screen produces are aided by the fact it is capable of displaying a hefty 16 million colours. Another feather to the screens bow is that it is a capacitive touchscreen unlike the majority of Nokias other, resistive styled efforts. Ultimately this mean that the screen responds easily to any touch from the user, rather than relying upon pressure being applied. Auto rotate functionality is supported thanks to an accelerometer chip and a proximity sensor behind the screen locks the screen when the phone is close to your face, preventing any unnecessary button presses.

The fact that the Nokia X6 comes with a massive 32 GB of internal memory highlight the fact that Nokia know they produce brilliant multi media handsets, and are moulding this phone around that principle. You can take advantage of a years free service of Nokias "Comes with Music" service, allowing almost infinite downloading opportunities. The inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone socket means that this unit will appeal even more to the music lover as they can now use it with there own choice of headphones. The Ovi store means that apps can be easily downloaded as well as audio files. This is an increasingly important aspect of any modern handset, with more and more users relying on there phones a source of entertainment rather than as just being a telephone.

The customary camera facility is included on the X6 and this is also a fairly impressive affair. Boasting a pixel rating of 5 million and backed up by an autofocus facility and a dual LED flash, the camera is certainly no afterthought. It even features high end Carl Zeiss optics found on dedicated digital still cameras.

The Nokia X6 is a superb mobile handset. It is obviously going to appeal to the real music lovers, however its host of other features teamed with its stylish exterior would make this a great phone for nearly everybody.
