subject: Decorating Tips For Busy Homeowners [print this page]

If you're considering changing the current look of your home without going to the trouble of a major renovating work, you can do the following decorating techniques:

Add Some Art

Bare walls can be attractive in modern, minimalist homes but the fact is that most of us live with family members and pets that make it difficult to achieve that austere look. Instead, you can embrace your quirks and choose a painting that reflects your personal taste. Remember that you will want to focus not only on the subject matter of the art, but also the colors. There are plenty of reprints that can be purchased inexpensively, which come framed and ready to withstand the dust and wear that comes in a busy household.

Adorn your walls not just with paintings but also with photographs. You can also maximize your artworks by accentuating the bigger piece with smaller ones.

Floor to Ceiling

Don't forget the floors if you want a magical transformation. Many people forget that flooring also contributes to the overall interior of a room. With area rugs, your floor and consequently, your room will take on a new, much better appearance.

For a cooling touch in rooms with deep mahogany or other darkly colored walls, then area rugs with whites, rose, and other light colors can be considered. Make sure that you think about the other furnishings in your rooms when choosing the rug, however, or you may end up redecorating more than you intended.

Be Creative

Don't hesitate to showcase whatever artistic talent you have. A simple stenciling, embroidery or sewing will lessen your decorating expenses but will still add to your home improvement.

Stenciling may require a bit more work than the others but the results are worth it. Allot some spare time to do this since the stenciled section needs to dry completely before moving on to the next. For a small expenditure, which is only to buy sponge, stencils, paint and brush, your room will have a dramatic change.
