subject: The Samsung Wave Boasts An Extensive Spec List [print this page]

The recently released Samsung Wave is a slick handset offering both impressive functionality and appealing design. Great for a range of uses, the Wave has key features including touch screen navigation, multimedia support and a digital camera.

Several methods of connectivity keep it connected to the internet as well as cellular networks. In areas covered by 3G, HSDPA is available at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps along with HSUPA at 2 Mbps. If a signal from a local wireless internet router is detected, Wi-Fi connectivity provides a faster web browsing experience. GPRS and EDGE (both class 12) provide the primary means of connecting to cellular networks. Bluetooth and USB provide additional connectivity options allowing tasks such as file transfers to be carried out.

The internal phonebook includes the photocall feature whereby a photo is assigned to a contact and this is then displayed on screen whenever that person is in contact. Internal memory is in the form of 2 GB/8 GB allowing a large number of music tracks and video files to be stored. Additional storage can be attained by utilising the built in micro SD slot and installing a memory card of up to a whopping 32 GB.

A 5 megapixel camera offers users the chance to take high quality still images with ease, thanks to the inclusion of both autofocus and LED flash. An alternative method of image capture is provided by the capability to shoot video in 720p, amongst the highest quality video available on a phone camera today. This is at a rate of 30 frames per second.

Vibration and MP3 ringtones alert users to incoming calls and text messages. In order to communicate handsfree, a 3.5mm audio jack is provided for the use of hands free headsets. Also, a speakerphone system is installed with DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) for superb sound quality.

The Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen measures 3.3 inches and provides excellent quality display on screen. This is thanks to 480x800 pixels displaying up to 16 million colours. The handset is slim at 10.9mm and light weight, weighing in at 118 grams, making it a pleasure to use when on the go.

A versatile media player supports the common file formats of both music and video files, whilst a stereo FM radio player and a selection of pre-installed and downloadable games provide additional entertainment options. Extra features include Google Maps, organiser and T9.

The combination of its impressive spec list along with its great design means the Samsung Wave looks set to be a very popular handset indeed.
