subject: Sleep Problems And A Memory Foam Mattress Pad [print this page]

There is a cycle our bodies use to sleep on called the circadian rhythm and it is he 24 hour system our bodies have become accustomed to. It affects drastically the way our bodies are allowed to regenerate and gather strength and if it is altered it can really throw you off. It can be manipulated by anything that affects our alertness. So things like naps, changing our bed time's exercise or our exposure to light.

Aging affects the way we sleep as our bodies get older they become more dependent on the regenerative nature of the sleep process. In our early 40's the sleep pattern makes a change and we are more easily awoken during the night, many times over in fact. These mid-night gettings ups can really affect the quality of your sleep but they are also compounded or made worse by other factors known to keep us up, like drinking before bed. The more you get up at night the worse you will be feeling in the morning.

There are many psychological stressors like exams, martial conflict, job crisis or deadlines that will prevent you from getting the best sleep possible. These stressors not only prevent the mind from turning itself off all the way, but they can actually make it easier for us to awake abruptly during the night. Many people feel they can work all day all the way up to the time to go to bed and then simply turn their brains off and it simply doesn't work that way. There are things you can do to help you feel more comfortable in bed like a memory foam mattress pad.

Recreational drugs like coffee and other things can screw with your cycle and really alter the way you sleep at night. There are more drugs that fit this category than you may initially think. Caffeine for example is one of the more devastating drugs that can keep in your system for days at a time. In addition to keeping you up, once you do fall asleep the caffeine can make it easier to disturb your sleep during the night.

Alcohol is thought to help you get to sleep faster in the short term, and that is typically true. Unfortunately once the alcohol passes through the system it can cause you to be more easily disturbed later on. Usually the alcohol will affect you for 3 to 4 hours after consumption.
