Gift Ideas for Grandpas
Gift Ideas for Grandpas

Grandpa is a special man and gift giving can be tough. Sometimes gifts from stores like Jos. A. Bank or Thompson Cigar are a great idea and sometimes just spending some time with him will do. If you are trying to figure out what would make a great gift for grandpa this year, check out some of the ideas below. Some are material and some are not; you decide what is best for your grandpa.

Books

If your grandpa loves to read, then find a book that he would love or get him a yearly subscription to a magazine he picks up when at the grocery store. Reading material is a great way to keep those juices flowing in the brain and to sharpen the mind. If grandpa has trouble seeing, you might want to pick up a good pair of reading glasses to go along with the gift.

Slippers

For someone who does not spend a lot of time outdoors, a good pair of slippers is a great gift. He can wear them throughout the house and even out to get the mail. Slippers are easier to put on than regular shoes. It's easy to wear them for a short trip to the front porch and to keep toes warm while indoors in the colder months. Consider slippers with traction soles to prevent slips and falls.

Memory Book

Create a scrapbook or photo album for him to cherish with all the favorite photos of his life. Take older photos and have them restored and make sure you add plenty of new ones to reflect his entire life.

Cigars and Humidifiers

If your grandpa loves a good cigar, then buy him some of his favorites. If he loves to smoke his pipe, then a new pipe and some tobacco with a humidifier is a great gift he will enjoy.

Time

Spending time with your grandpa is probably the best gift you can give him, so if you are planning on bringing him a material gift think about spending the day with him when you deliver it. As people get older, they become more secluded from social events and even family and friends, so having a day to spend with a loved one can mean more than any material gift. If your grandpa is a war veteran, find out what events are taking place near you and plan a day to take him to join in the celebration and socialize with his war hero buddies.

You can take grandpa to the cemetery to place flowers on the graves of the loved ones he has lost or just take a ride in the country. If your grandpa is in a nursing home and unable to leave, let him use your cell phone to chat with someone he has lost contact with or even use your e-mail to send a letter to someone who doesn't live close enough to visit.
