subject: School Proxy - Which Proxies Unblock Websites At School? [print this page]

Need a school proxy? Schools and other educational places frequently block access to specific sites on the internet. What is important is not why they do this but what you can do to bypass it. What you will commonly find is that social networking sites are blocked and the only way to access them is with some kind of proxy. The good news is that there are several different kinds of proxies available that will allow you to unblock almost any site from school.

The first are commonly known as web proxies. How do they work? A web proxy works by simply redirecting traffic from the social networking site that you want to access through its own server. Instead of surfing the internet directly, all surfing is done via the web proxy. The down side here is that the internet will be slow and common features like video, audio and multi-media functions may be disabled. The good news is that web proxies are usually free. They won't cost you a penny.

One thing you should be aware of is that schools commonly block websites that contain the word "proxy" anywhere in the URL. They do this because they know students try to use proxies to bypass their school blocks. My suggestion is that you look for a website that does not contain the word "proxy" in the URL. Some other common substitutes are "unblock" and "hide". The advantage of using a proxy without the word "proxy" in the URL is that it will be open and not blocked by your school for some time.
