subject: The Man's Sunday Revisited: Ideas Towards A Top Day Off [print this page]

So you've finally booked a slot to have a proper, old-fashioned day off; work phone switched off, no driving family to church or to yoga practice or anything, just donning the royal dressing gown and relaxing, forgetting about work until tomorrow, just taking it easy. So, with all that ahead, we've put together a list of top Sunday activities to see that your day off is one to remember.

Breakfast Martinis: Okay, so it might sound a little delicate, but there's no better way to get a taste for your Sunday opulence than to start the day with a breakfast martini. It's a regular gin martini with added lemon juice, orange liqueur, and, of course, marmalade. Shake it up (or get someone to do it for you) with ice cubes and pour into a cocktail glass, then just enjoy yourself.

Cinema Projector: Now that you're king for a day, you might want to treat yourself to watching your favourite film, but not just any old way; in cinema-screen sized, surround-sound magnificence. Portable home projectors are coming down in price all the time, and you can share the price if you've got other mates with the same idea. When the payoff is getting to see Once Upon a Time in the West or The Godfather on a twelve metre square screen on your day off, it's surely worth it.

Football and BBQ: On a good day, a long game of football in the park followed by a good barbecue is surely the pinnacle of Sunday greatness, so it's well worth piping up and being the one to get things moving. If you're the real glory-hunter type and it's likely to get competitive, keep the family back home. If not, throw in the kids and the girls and make a mass tournament out of it. After all, you can always charge the entry fee for non-official Sunday-off types to be the preparing of the barbecue stuff later.

Building a Tree House: Sometimes it's the most childish things we're in need of in order to unwind. Building a tree house ranks as one of the most satisfying and childish things that can be done, with the added bonus of having a tree house to show for it when you finish. There are still people who take it pretty seriously, and nowadays you can find professional equipment even in garden centres, that will make sure what you build stands up to the added few pounds you might've gathered up since primary school. Pick a stout tree, and don't forget the retractable ladders.

Zorbing: If you're feeling a little sluggish and want to fill your day with something fun, then Zorbing is one great option. Zorbing is basically the equivalent of racing hamsters in those plastic spheres down a slope in your garden as a child, only you're the hamster, and the sphere is a huge inflatable ball, or sometimes piece of fruit. Zorbing began in New Zealand where it's perfectly fine to start trends like this, but is now in the UK and happening with alarming regularity up and down the country. Go out and Zorb.

Whether it's a dressing-gown and mens slippers only epic of films and treats, or a day packed full of laughs with friends and family, enjoy your ultimate man's Sunday to the full who knows when the next one will come around?

Final tip: armchair shopping. you can buy anything from gadgets to clothes online.
