Driving Licences and Convictions

A car insurer has recently revealed information that more than one million motorists are on the brink of losing their driving licences, thanks to speed cameras on our roads. There are currently six thousand cameras up and down the country, and as many as four point five million drivers have points on their licence for speeding. One in five of these drivers are one conviction away from a ban. And this is an increase of as much as four percent on last year.

This means that last year alone, an additional two hundred and fifteen thousand drivers have put themselves at risk from receiving a ban to prevent them from driving on the roads in the UK.

This could affect livelihoods across the country, as statistics show that as many as fourteen percent of drivers would lose their jobs should they lose their driving licences, which rises to one in five in men (twenty percent).

Within the past three years, UK motorists have paid out over three million pounds in speeding tickets, yet half of the driving convictions that motorists have received are due to them being less than ten percent over the speed limit.

Emma Holyer, Direct Line's Motor Spokesperson said: "With the advent of speed cameras and the introduction of points for being caught for driving using a mobile phone, we urge motorists not to break the law as they could face numerous consequences such as killing or injuries themselves or others, disqualification, job loss and financial loss.

If you are driving on the roads in the UK, make sure you go online for Cheap Car Insurance.
